Synopsis

This monograph is intended primarily for professionals working in the biological and
medicaJ sciences. It swnmarizes the most current information about cyanogenic glycosides,
amygdalin, bone tissue and provides initial infonnation about subacute and long-term effects of amygdalin applied intramuscularly and perorally on the macroscopic and microscopic structure
of the femurs in a suitable animal model. In addition, the in1pact of amygdalin on osteoblasts and tbe expression of their genes in in vilro conditions has also been determined. The results
presented can serve as starting material for frther research studies aimed at investigating the
influence of cyanogenic glycosides on morphological and molecuJar alterations in tbe skeleton of animals and humans.
